Andrey Noel, who has a background in networking and telecommunications, was always drawn to technology. During the pandemic, he realized he needed to keep evolving his skill set and future-proof his career. And for this, he chose to learn to code. This is his story.
I’ve always been interested in tech and IT — it’s what I naturally gravitated towards. During the pandemic, I was introduced to AWS and Azure. I studied them and quite enjoyed them.
There were quite a few new job openings for roles that required these skills. But, I soon realized that coding was the main component in all of these jobs. I was always running into some type of coding requirement, whether it be DevOps, whether it be cybersecurity – eventually, I would run into either JavaScript, Python, or C#.
I initially faced challenges in deciding which language to start with due to conflicting advice. Some people recommended JavaScript, while others suggested PHP. Or Python. Ultimately, I chose JavaScript because I had people around me who could guide me through it.
At first, coding didn’t click for me. It wasn’t just about learning syntax — I soon realized that learning to code required a shift in thinking. It required completely changing how I think to solve problems.
I wasn’t a programmer — I stumbled a lot, and I’m still in the phase of shifting my mindset.
Another speed bump in my journey was the resources I used.
